Please join us in honoring the veterans who fought in the Revolutionary War (1775-1783) to gain the independence of America from the British. in doing so, they helped create the first democratic movement in modern history.
Three Patriot Burials Markers will be places at three cemeteries in the Town of Sterling to honor and celebrate these veterans on Saturday, May 28th:
John Batie: Sterling Center Cemetery Noon
James Wasson: Sterling Center Cemetery
William McCoy: Sterling Center Cemetery
Squire Wilson: Martville Cemetery 1 PM
Cornelius Ackerson: Overocker Cemetery 2 PM
Reception: 3 PM, Fair Haven Pavilion
The William G. Pomeroy Foundation, who promotes historic awareness via there markers program, provided the grant funding for the markers, sponsored through the Empire State Society of the Sons of the American Revolution. To qualify, proof of service and proof of burial were provided for each veteran along with written permission to the place the markers in the cemeteries.
