The Chair of the Legislature, Tucker Whitman, and County Administrator J. Justin Woods announced Cayuga County, in partnership with the New York State Division of Homeland Security & Emergency Services and the Village of Fair Haven, is establishing a sandbag filling operation in Fair Haven in preparation for potential flooding along the Lake Ontario shoreline.
DHSES provided Cayuga County with a sandbagger and 40,000 sandbags. Fair Haven Mayor Jim Basile provided the sand and location for the sandbag filling operation, and Cayuga County Sheriff Brian Schenck is deploying an inmate work crew to assist with these preparations. Larry Dygert, the County's Fire Coordinator in the Emergency Services Office, is on site in Fair Haven, coordinating the operation.
Cayuga County thanks the Governor and DHSES for their proactive approach and continued support of Upstate New York communities.
