Weatherization
This combines services and programs to pay for home improvements to cut down on heat loss and therefore, reduce heating costs. Referrals can be made to Cayuga/Seneca Community Action , the local weatherization provider agency.
Home Repair Programs
There are grants, low-interest loans, and cost-sharing programs to assist eligible households with home repairs in some localities. These home repair programs are operated by Cayuga County Homsite Development Corporation.
Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP)
HEAP is a federally funded program that issues heating benefits to supplement a household’s annual energy cost. In Cayuga County, senior households should contact Cayuga Seneca Community Action Agency at 315-255-1703 to apply for HEAP.
Senior Property Tax Exemptions
(STAR) New York State Real Property Tax Law gives local governments and public school districts the option of granting a reduction on the amount of property taxes paid by qualifying senior citizens. This is accomplished by reducing the taxable value of residential property owned by seniors. To qualify, seniors generally must be 65 years of age or older and meet certain income limitations and other requirements.
