Food Program

The goal of this program is to prevent illnesses associated with food service establishments.

This program provides services in the following areas:

  • Issues permits to food service establishments in Cayuga County
  • Performs inspections of food service facilities
  • Performs enforcement actions for violations of the Food Service Establishment codes
  • Investigates food borne illness outbreaks
  • Investigates food service facility complaints
  • Enforces the requirements of the New York State Sanitary Code
  • Provides plan review and approval for new or modified food service facilities
  • Enforces the New York State Clean Indoor Air Act at food service facilities
  • Provides public information and education concerning food safety issues
  • Answers questions from the public regarding food protection in the home


Preparing Products for Sale to Retail Agricultural Venues

If you plan to make foods such as certain baked goods, jellies or snack mixes for sale at retail agricultural venues, such as farmers markets, you may qualify for a Home Processor Exemption from the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets. See Information for Home Processors (PDF).
