MAY is Mental Health Awareness Month
2022 Cayuga County Events
The Cayuga County Mental Health Task Force has partnered with the YMCA, Downtown Deli, Cayuga Counseling, Cayuga County Mental Health Center, Auburn Housing Authority, Liberty Resources, Local Libraries (Seymour, Aurora & Port Byron), Auburn City Police Department, Cayuga County Sheriff's, Auburn City Fire Department, Downtown Business Improvement District to come together as a community for the month of May to show a sign of solidarity in support of mental wellness.
Friday, May 6th - [Downtown Business WALKOUT event for Mental Health Appreciation Month]
12:00-1:00pm @ NYS Heritage Equal Rights Center (25 South Street, Auburn, 13021)
Come to the NYS Equal Rights Heritage Center for our Kick Off event and join the downtown businesses, community agencies, friends and family to celebrate Mental Wellness. Between 12:00-12:30pm folks will be walking from their businesses over to the Heritage center. Downtown Deli will be providing free lunch to those that attend. At 12:30pm Lauren Walsh, Director of Community Services, will kick off the month as our speaker and county leader in mental health, substance use & developmental disability services. The event will come to a close at 1:00pm, so take a city hike, do some retail therapy, grab a cup of coffee, head to the library…there is plenty to do to take care of your mental health!
Tuesday, May 24th - [Cayuga County Legislature Committee Meeting, Mental Health Appreciation Proclamation]
6:00-7:30pm @ Cayuga County Office Bldg (160 Genesee St. 6th floor, Auburn, 13021)
A Proclamation to honor May being Mental Health Awareness Month will be read by the Cayuga County Legislature Chairman, Mr. David Gould. All are Welcome to come and show support for Mental Wellness
Thursday, May 25th - [Mental Wellness Night at the YMCA]
6:00-8:00pm @ the YMCA (27 William Street, Auburn, 13021)
The Cayuga County Community Mental Health Center; Families Access to Support Team, Mental Health Task Force & YMCA will be hosting a Mental Wellness Night. A panel discussion will be held spotlighting youth and family Mental Well Being. Speaker for the panel discussion will be Christina Besecker, Youth Peer Advocate at Cayuga Centers. Many community agencies will be present with resources and information.
Monday, May 30th - [Memorial Day Parade & Food Truck Rodeo]
11:00am-3:00pm @ Downtown Auburn
The Cayuga County Mental Health Task Force will have a float in the Memorial Day Parade with the theme being Mental Wellness!
MENTAL WELLNESS FOR CAYUGA COUNTY

- Throughout the month of May, multiple articles will be published in the Citizen newspaper focusing on Mental Wellness.
- Cayuga Crisis Line expanding to substance use calls
- Auburn events planned for Mental Health Awareness Month
The Seymour (Auburn) and Port Byron libraries will also showcasing mental wellness books and providing information throughout May.
