Motor Equipment Operator - Part Time

The highway department is taking applications to fill one or two part time winter positions. A clean CDL would be helpful but not necessary. The position will be “as needed” to operate wing and may include substitute driving if needed because of driver shortage. The pay rate is $18.43 with CDL and $15.36 without CDL. Applicant must be available 24/7, willing to work late nights, early mornings, day time, holidays, and weekends as needed.   • Review property transfers and verify sales data to be used in the assessment process.
  • When property is split, merged or has a portion of it sold or transferred, the assessor reviews the paperwork and assigns an assessed value to the new portions.
  • New construction and renovations are reviewed and assessed values are assigned to them.
  • Real Property Tax Exemptions are administered by this office also.



March 1 - TAXABLE STATUS DATE... all exemption renewal formal due back to the assessor by this date

May 1 - TENTATIVE ROLL FILED... after this date all current year assessment grievances must go through the Board of Assessment Review Committee including ratification of any reductions agreed to by the assessor and property owner

May 24 - BOARD OF ASSESSMENT REVIEW (Grievance Night)... 4:00 to 8:00 p.m.


September 1 - SCHOOL TAX BILLS mailed and made available online (

October 31 - EXEMPTION RENEWAL FORMS for the upcoming year are mailed to owners

January 1 - COUNTY/TOWN TAX BILLS mailed and available online (


Below is the link to access the Enhanced STAR and use the IVP (Income Verification Program). Eligible homeowners who apply or re-apply for the Enhanced Star program have the option to enroll in IVP.

In order to qualify for Enhance STAR and use the IVP, eligible homeowners must:

  1. Already have the Basic or Enhanced STAR on their current home
  2. Be 65 years of age, or turn 65 by December of this year
  3. Not exceed the income requirement for the exemption
  4. Annually file a NYS personal income tax return




The Niles Board of Assessment Review will meet on Thursday, May 24, 2018 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. for the purpose of hearing property owners' grievances on their assessments or exemption status for the 2018 assessment roll only.

Grievance forms are available from the Assessor or the Town Clerk. Forms are also available here. Please have your paperwork filled out before the meeting.

Please take notice: The following roads or sections of road in the Town of Niles are designated as "Seasonal Limited-Use Highways".   There is no snow or ice removal or maintenance from December 1st through April 1st on these designated roads.

Cross, Gahwiler - Harter Road intersection to Wise Farm, Fitzpatrick, Richardson - top of hill to Murray Road, Case, Church - 200' east of Oak Hill Road to Moravia town line, Kahler Lane, Split Rock - west plow turn around at woods edge to east plow turn around at woods edge, Appletree Point - plow turn around to dead end, Bear Swamp - plow turn around to Sempronius town line, Ridge Road.

Effective January 5, 2014, We Care Waste and Recycling, LLC, will be the garbage hauler for the Town of Niles. Pick up will be on Mondays beginning at 7:00 am, with the exception of any Monday holidays. On those days, pickup will be the following day.
