Cayuga County SWCD: Critical Area Seeding

Critical Area Seeding

Soil erosion and sedimentation are one cause of water degradation. Soil loss can cause sedimentation to occur in road ditches, and sediment can be composed of nutrients and harmful chemicals. Water that will eventually reach our waterbodies can be contaminated by these nutrients and chemicals. Critical area seeding is the best management practice for such concerns. Once the seeding is established, soil will be stabilized, and sediment will be less likely to make it's way into waterbodies.
