Cayuga County, New York
The Tax Map Division of the CAYUGA COUNTY OFFICE of REAL PROPERTY SERVICES provides a current set of maps for use by local assessors throughout the County. The tax maps portray every parcel of land in CAYUGA COUNTY. Corresponding map parcel numbers can be utilized to determine current ownership and assessment information. There are about 737 maps in the present system that show about 37,000 parcels of land. The existing tax maps were originally prepared by L. Robert Kimball, Engineers, of Ebensburg, PA, with background aerial photos of 1973-1974. The new tax map data was used on the 1976 tax rolls for the first time. The latest aerial phototography was obtained in 2006. There are about 250 deeds and 20 survey or subdivision maps filed in the County Clerk's Office each month. Tax Map Technicians continuously revise the tax maps to reflect all the changes as land is transferred or subdivided. Each new deed parcel description is plotted and drafted to scale using AutoCAD. The revised parcel size and acreage is calculated, a new parcel number is assigned and all this information is reviewed and sent to local assessors. The tax maps provide several layers of data within the computer based County Geographic Information System. Files are maintained in the Cayuga County Office of Real Property Services with copies of almost all the current ownership deeds for property within Cayuga County. The original tax map sheets were ink on mylar drawings. During 2000-2002 the tax maps were converted to a digital computer format. Prior to April 2000, tax maps were microfilmed once a year during March or April. Now tax maps are archived in a digital format.
