Geographic Information Systems
- Background -
The Department of Planning and Economic Development is a primary resource for the geographic information and analyses required for effective operation of municipal government. A computerized geographic information system (GIS) stores data describing a wide variety of geographic features. Powerful software technology allows for the visualization of multiple data layers on maps and the analysis of spatial relationships among features. Such visualization and analysis often reveals previously unrecognized patterns and trends that provide insight useful in answering questions, solving problems, and planning for the future.
Major areas of activity include:
- Planning and Development of the County GIS
- Data Acquisition, Maintenance, and Enhancement
- Mapping Services
- Data Dissemination
- Custom Data Compilation
- Geospatial Analysis and Decision Assistance
