Protective Services for Adults

The Protective Services for Adults (PSA) of Cayuga County

 responds to referrals regarding individuals who

 are over 18 years of age or older

AND

 have a physical or mental impairment

 AND

have no one willing or able to assist them  

 

WARNING SIGNS

  • No activity inthe home of a person livingalone, mail and newspapers piling up
  • A vulnerable adult is dependent on a stressed, mentally ill or substance abusing caregiver
  • An adult is seen wandering outdoors inclothing notappropriate forweather conditions
  • An elderly neighbor has become frail or malnourished and refuses assistance
  • A disabled or elderly person shows bruises and other signs of physical abuse
  • A person shows confusion and forgetfulness over money, leavingessential bills unpaid

Call the Cayuga County Adult Protective Unit at 253-1446.


WHAT SERVICES ARE AVAILABLE?

Investigation of requests for help

A home visit to identify needs and arrange for services, medical care or other resources in the community

Counseling for client and family members

Money management services

Referral to legal services

Assistance in finding other living arrangements

Services to obtain a guardian

Home chores in certain cases

Assistance in obtaining other benefits and services

 

PSA Services are free to adults in need of them, regardless of income. Adults have the right to accept or refuse services that PSA offers. In cases of extreme need, the local Department of Social Services is required to intervene to protect the individual.
