1. What are your hours?

We are open Monday through Friday 8 am to 5 pm, though the office is closed for lunch 12-1 pm. 

During the months of July and August we are only open until 4 pm, with the lunch hour being the same.

2. How do I pay Restitution?

You may pay in person, online, or via telephone.

When paying in person, acceptable forms of payment are cash (exact amount ONLY), money order, cashier's/bank check, and credit/debit cards. Personal checks are NOT accepted. Individuals making payment via credit/debit card must present photo identification which matches the name on the credit/debit card being offered for payment.

Restitution payments may also be made via Government Payment Services (now called AllPaid) by visiting the GovPayNow page or by calling 888-604-7888.

Individuals paying online or via telephone will need to provide their first and last name, date of birth, credit/debit card information, and the Pay Location Code (a000ox).

Government Payments Services/AllPaid charges a service fee for debit and credit card payments made through any of their access points.

3. What is the difference between probation and parole?

Probation is a sentence or disposition imposed by a criminal court or family court. In general, probationers are released in the community without serving a period of local incarceration, although in certain circumstances they may be sentenced to both imprisonment (local) and probation; the sentence of incarceration shall be a condition of and run concurrently with a sentence of probation. Probation is a county function in New York State, although in New York City, the probation department is run by the City government. The Division of Probation and Correctional Alternatives (OPCA) provides regulatory oversight and funding to local probation departments.

Parole is a portion of a correctional sentence served in the community following a term of incarceration in state prison. For offenders serving an "indeterminate" sentence, the NYS Board of Parole makes decisions whether an eligible state inmate is granted or denied parole. Offenders sentenced to a "determinate" prison term generally are released after serving 6/7 of their sentence. The period of supervised release following incarceration for such offenders is known as "Post-Release Supervision." Parole or Post-Release Supervision is intended to assist offenders in returning to society. These offenders are supervised in the community by parole officers, who are state officials employed by the NYS Division of Parole.

6. How do I apply for a Certificate of Relief from Disabilities?

8. Are Sex Offenders allowed to be around minors?

9. What do I do if I think someone is on probation and I think they're committing or have committed a crime?

If you believe that someone has committed or is committing a crime, we would recommend you call 911. If you then wish to report a crime or concerning behavior to a person's Probation Officer, you may do so by contacting that person's Probation Officer. If you do not know who their probation officer is, you may call our main number at 315-253-1246 and someone will direct you.

11. My child received an appearance ticket. What do I do?

If your child has been issued an appearance ticket by an arresting agency in Cayuga County (Auburn Police Department, Cayuga County Sheriff's Office, or New York State Police), this department will also get a copy of the appearance ticket. 

Please follow the instructions on the appearance ticket. If it says to await contact by the Probation Department, but it feels like it's too long and you haven't heard from us, you may call our main number at 315-253-1246 and ask to speak with the Juvenile Probation Officer, or in their stead, the Juvenile Probation Officer Supervisor. *If your address, phone number, or custodial guardian of the child changes in the meantime, please contact the Probation Department immediately to keep us up to date.

Please note that it is not uncommon for a week or two to pass between when your child receives the appearance ticket and when we receive our copy and are able to open a case in our system.
