Owasco Lake Watershed Management Plan

The State of the Owasco Lake Watershed report was completed in 2000, and was followed in 2001 by the Owasco Lake Watershed Management Plan. Much has happened over the intervening 13 years, both on the landscape and in the lake. New threats to water quality have emerged, along with some new tools for managing the resource.

Cayuga County Department of Planning & Economic Development is leading an effort to update and expand the Owasco Lake Watershed Management Plan, with funding support from the NYS Department of State. Local partners include the Owasco Lake Watershed Management Council, the Owasco Watershed Lake Association, Cayuga County Soil & Water Conservation District, the Cayuga County Farm Bureau, Cayuga County Water Quality Management Agency and others interested in water resources.

Over the next 18 months, EcoLogic LLC and Environmental Design & Research will work with the Cayuga County project team to gather data and information about the lake and its watershed and lead a community-wide discussion of how to meet the challenges of water quality protection. This is an exciting opportunity to help shape the future of the Owasco Lake Watershed
