Sponsors and Funding:

This event is sponsored by Cornell Cooperative Extension of Cayuga County, Cayuga County Solid Waste Management Program Office, Cayuga County Department of Planning and Economic Development and hosted by the Cayuga-Onondaga BOCES.

Main funding for the event is provided by Cayuga County and Nucor Steel-Auburn.  Fluorescent bulb recycling is partly funded by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation through the Environmental Protection Fund.

Also, the manufacturers of TV's and home computers now pay our contractor to recycle them, so there is no charge to the public. This is known as "extended producer responsibility" or "product stewardship." Click here to learn more from the New York Product Stewardship Council.

Additional Information and Hints

Time: To avoid waiting in line, do not come early. Arriving early, or arriving close to 9:00, 10:00, 11:00 or noon means you will wait in line longer.   There might be a long line, so bring a book on tape, your favorite music or a newspaper.

Large freon appliances (over 40 pounds): We do not take them here to avoid back injuries. Our freon removal and recycling contractor, Finger Lakes Recycling (FLR) Facility, is located at 2810 Trombley Road in Weedsport. FLR is open six days a week and now accepts large refrigerators, freezers, commercial ice makers, refrigerated vending machines and all other large freon appliances. FLR is currently accepting these large items for FREE.  DO NOT bring them to this event.
