America Recycles Day



This fall all residents of Cayuga County and the City of Auburn are invited to participate in the 2017 America Recycles Collection Event.  The event presents  an excellent opportunity to discard materials in a safe manner.  Proper disposal protects human health, our community and the environment.  The material collected at this event will be recycled to the fullest extent possible by our contractors.

Date, Time, Place:

  • Saturday November 18, 2017
  • 8 to 11 am
  • City of Auburn Landfill, North Division Street, Auburn

Fees/Requested Donations (everything is free except):

  • $10 requested donation per picture tube television or CRT computer monitor or loose picture tubes
  • $10 requested donation per projection or console television
  • $10 fee per large floor model copiers and other electronic items weighing over 80 pounds each, at the contractor's discretion
  • Charges may apply for equipment from businesses with more than 50 employees at the contractor's discretion

Acceptable Household Electronics Include:

  • Computer equipment
  • Computer monitors ($10 requested donation for old CRT monitors)
  • Televisions ($10 requested donation for old picture tube television or loose picture tubes)
  • Projection or console televisions ($10 requested donation)
  • Microwaves
  • Typewriters
  • Video game systems
  • Universal power supplies
  • Cell phones

Also Accepted will be:

  • Fluorescent light bulbs:  2 foot, 4 foot and 8 foot (contain mercury)
  • Button cell batteries
  • Toner/ink cartridges
  • Handheld cylinders that contained gases such as oxygen, MAPP and helium
  • 1 pound to 20 pound propane tanks
  • Small freon appliances like air conditioners, dehumidifiers, and dorm sized refrigerators weighing less than 40 pounds.  No freon appliance over 40 pounds will be accepted so we can avoid back injuries.  Our freon removal and recycling contractor, Finger Lakes Recycling's facility, is located at 2810 Trombley Road is open six days a week and will accept large refrigerators, freezers, commercial ice makers, refrigerated vending machines, and all other large freon appliances. Finger Lakes Recycling is currently accepting these large items for FREE.  DO NOT bring them to this event. 

Do Not Bring:

  • Compact fluorescent bulbs (CFL).  Please return to Home Depot or Lowe's.
  • Rechargeable batteries.  Please return to Home Depot or Lowe's.

Additional Information:

  • Charges may apply for equipment from businesses with more than 50 employees at the contractor's discretion
  • We reserve the right to reject items

  • This event is sponsored by the Cayuga County Solid Waste Management Program Office (Cayuga Recycles), and the Cayuga County Department of Planning and Economic Development, and, hosted by the City of Auburn.  With assistance from Cornell Cooperative Extension of Cayuga County for promotion, staffing and volunteer coordination.
  • Main funding is provided by Nucor Steel Auburn and Cayuga County.  Fluorescent bulbs and television recycling may be partially funded by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation through the Environmental Protection Fund.
