Cayuga County Office of Emergency Management is in the process of updating the 2014 Hazard Mitigation Plan (HMP) for the County and its 33 municipalities. The plan focuses on existing and future buildings, infrastructure, and critical facilities that might be impacted by natural disasters. Ultimately, the mitigation projects identified and implemented will reduce vulnerability and enable communities to become more resilient to disasters.
The County has completed a risk assessment to identify hazards that may impact Cayuga County and its municipalities, profiled the relevant hazards and their potential consequences, identified assets that are subject to losses or damage, and estimated the potential losses that could result from each type of hazard. The County and participating municipalities have used this information to develop a hazard mitigation strategy which includes the identification of hazard mitigation goals as well as a prioritized list of actions designed to reduce losses.
The 2021 Draft HMP is now available for public review on the Cayuga County Hazard Mitigation Plan website at https://www.cayugacountynyhmp.com/draft-plans/.
Feedback from municipal officials and members of the public is welcomed and encouraged during the public comment period, which will remain open until January 18, 2021. All feedback provided on the plan will be reviewed and incorporated, where appropriate. Please visit https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/CayugaHMPReview to comment on the Plan.
The update of this plan allows the county and participating jurisdictions to continue to be eligible for future pre-disaster mitigation funding from FEMA.
