Cayuga County and the Village of Fair Haven, in partnership with the New York State Division of Homeland Security & Emergency Services (DHSES), is providing this update on the work being done to prepare local businesses and residents for any potential flooding along the shores of Lake Ontario.
The Cayuga County Emergency Management Office (CEMO) and Village have established a sandbagging operation and self-service distribution center at the Village Pavilion on Church Street. Residents and local business owners may pick up bags from this location free of charge. Please help your family, friends, and neighbors who may require assistance in preparing themselves. Anyone who requires assistance, no matter the reason, may also request it by calling the Village of Fair Haven Town Clerk at 315-947-5112 extension 2. Requests will be considered based on need and flooding potential.
To date, DHSES has made 65,000 empty sandbags, one sandbagger, and multiple pumps available to Cayuga County and the Village, with another 20,000 stationed for filling at the State Department of Transportation facility. Additionally, DHSES and CEMO continue to fill bags with work crews from the Cayuga County Jail and State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision in Fair Haven and at NYS DOT locations throughout the region.
Lastly, for anyone boating on Lake Ontario, please be considerate of waterfront property owners and leave no wake until the water levels reduce.
