Cayuga County will recycle certain small freon containing appliances (under 40 pounds) at Electronics "Plus" Recycling Event that will be held on October 1, 2022. Registration will open soon.
Freon represents a variety of chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), which contain elements such as carbon and fluorine as well as other gases. Freons are colorless, odorless, non-flammable, non-corrosive gases/liquids that are hazardous to the environment.
Appliances containing Freon include some refrigerators, freezer units, water coolers, dehumidifiers, and air conditioners and need to be properly disposed of. See below for ways to dispose of your freon containing appliances.
